About
Boles Field Campground is located in the northern portion of Sabine National Forest in eastern Texas, near the Louisiana border and just six miles from Toledo Bend Reservoir. The campground sits in a pine and hardwood forest and offers 20 campsites, each equipped with electric and water hookups. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with a $6 per night fee. The area is uniquely centered around a historic cemetery for fox hounds established at the turn of the century, where some of the world's most renowned hunting dogs are buried. The campground features an amphitheater that holds approximately 100 people and a group shelter, both available for day-use reservations through Recreation.gov. With Toledo Bend Reservoir just six miles away, campers have access to one of the nation's most regarded freshwater fishing sites. The area is excellent for bird watching and wildlife viewing, as East Texas lies in the migration path of warblers, vireos, and other neotropical species. The campground allows horses and accommodates up to 8 people and 2 tents per site, with a 14-day camping limit.
Directions
From Shelbyville, Texas, take Highway 87 south. Turn left on Texas FM 417 and proceed east for a mile, then take a right at the fork onto Texas FM 2694 and continue 5.5 miles to the campground.
