About
Ragtown Recreation Area is a scenic campground located on a high bluff overlooking Toledo Bend Reservoir in Sabine National Forest. Completed in 1975, this area is owned by the USFS and operated by the Sabine River Authority of Texas. The campground offers 13 single-family and 12 double-family campsites nestled among southern pine and hardwood trees, with spectacular east-facing views of the lake that make for stunning sunrises. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, parking spur, campfire ring that doubles as a cooking grill, and lantern post. The campground features a double-lane public boat ramp that provides lake access most of the year, making it an excellent base for fishing and boating. Nature enthusiasts can explore Mother Nature's Hiking Trail, a 1-mile loop that winds past magnificent oak and beech trees along the lakeshore. The area is known as a bird watcher's paradise. Ragtown offers a more primitive camping experience without potable water or restrooms on-site, though hot showers are available. The campground is perfect for tent camping and smaller RVs looking for a peaceful retreat with easy access to Toledo Bend Reservoir's recreational opportunities.
