About

Boles Field Campground is located in the northern portion of Sabine National Forest in eastern Texas, near the Louisiana border. The campground sits in a pine and hardwood forest and offers 20 campsites with electric and water hookups. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with flush toilets and potable water available. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis at $6 per night. The area centers around a historic cemetery for fox hounds established at the turn of the century, where some of the world's most well-known hunting dogs are buried. An amphitheater seating approximately 100 people and a group shelter are available for day-use events and can be reserved through Recreation.gov. With Toledo Bend Reservoir just six miles away, Boles Field provides access to one of the nation's premier freshwater fishing destinations. East Texas lies in the path of warblers, vireos, and other neotropical migrants, making spring an excellent time for birding. Wildlife is abundant throughout the surrounding forest.

From Shelbyville, Texas, take Highway 87 south. Turn left on Texas FM 417 and proceed east for a mile, then take a right at the fork onto Texas FM 2694 and continue 5.5 miles to the campground.
