About
Boles Field Campground is located in the northern portion of Sabine National Forest in eastern Texas, about 8 miles east of Shelbyville, near the Louisiana border. The area is home to a cemetery for fox hounds established at the turn of the century, where some of the world's most well-known hunting dogs are buried. The campground features 20 first-come, first-served campsites with electric and water hookups for $6 per night. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post, and can accommodate up to 8 people and 2 tents. The campground also has a unique amphitheater that holds approximately 100 people and a group shelter, both available for reservation through Recreation.gov for day use only. Situated in a pine and hardwood forest, the campground is just 6 miles from Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of the nation's premier freshwater fishing destinations. The area is excellent for bird watching and wildlife viewing, as East Texas lies in the path of warblers, vireos, and other neotropical migrants during spring migration. Horses are allowed in the campground.
Directions
From Shelbyville, Texas, take Highway 87 south. Turn left on Texas FM 417 and proceed east for a mile, then take a right at the fork onto Texas FM 2694 and continue 5.5 miles to the campground.
