About
Bluffview Recreation Area sits on the Salt River approximately 10 miles downstream from Mark Twain Lake and the Clarence Cannon Dam in north-central Missouri. At this location, a smaller re-regulation dam forms a storage pool for wetland purposes, creating excellent habitat for waterfowl and bass fishing opportunities. The facility is primarily designed for day-use visitors and features a boat ramp for accessing the Salt River, a playground for families, and picnic shelters. One group shelter with electricity is available for overnight rental. The area is particularly popular among anglers targeting bass below the Re-Regulation Dam and birdwatchers observing waterfowl in the wetland areas. Surrounded by tree-topped hills characteristic of the Salt River Hills region, Bluffview offers a peaceful setting where visitors can enjoy the same waters once explored by Mark Twain during his youth. Nearby attractions include Mark Twain's birthplace in Florida, Missouri, the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum in Hannibal, and the David C. Berti Shooting Range.
