Blue Bluff Picnic Area
Closed — Closed for the season. Reopens beginning of March through end of October. Day use hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. when open.
About
Blue Bluff Picnic Area sits atop a dramatic 80-foot bluff overlooking Aberdeen Lake along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, named for the striking clay and limestone cliffs that border the area. The day-use facility features four rentable group shelters equipped with water, electricity, and picnic tables, making it popular for birthdays and family reunions. Three main shelters and one beach shelter can accommodate groups for gatherings from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The surrounding woods offer walking trails with views of the waterway, lock and dam, and opportunities to spot deer, various bird species, and squirrels. The picnic area provides access to Aberdeen Lake for fishing and boating activities. Swimming is available from boats or at designated beach areas along the waterway. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the facility serves as a scenic day-use recreation area on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway system.
Directions
From Highway 45 in Aberdeen, Mississippi, travel to the intersection of Commerce and Meridian Streets in the downtown area. From Commerce, turn north on Meridian and cross a railroad track and a bridge. The recreation area is the first right turn after the bridge.
