Black River Harbor Pavilion

The Black River Harbor Pavilion is a historic stone and wood structure built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. Perched overlooking Lake Superior and the Black River Harbor in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this enclosed pavilion serves as a day-use group gathering space within the Ottawa National Forest. The facility features an interior fireplace, picnic tables, and flush restrooms. The pavilion is situated within the larger Black River Harbor Recreation Area, which includes a suspension bridge over the Black River, beach access to Lake Superior, a boat launch with docking services, and hiking trails connecting to five scenic waterfalls along the Wild and Scenic Black River. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through the area, offering a 12-mile route to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. This is a day-use facility only. Overnight camping is prohibited at the pavilion; campers must use the adjacent Black River Harbor Campground. The pavilion can accommodate groups and includes ADA-accessible restrooms and picnic tables. Groups exceeding 75 people require a special use permit.

Directions

From Ironwood, travel east on US 2 to Powderhorn Road, turn left and travel approximately 3 miles to CR 513, then turn left and travel approximately 11 miles to Black River Harbor Recreation Area. The pavilion is located in the harbor day-use area.
