Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 3:49AM EDT by NWS Marquette MI

2:49 AM — 7:00 PM

Gusty southeast winds as high as 20 to locally 25 mph, combined with dry conditions will lead to elevated wildfire potential this afternoon across most of Upper Michigan away from the shorelines of the Great Lakes. Avoid outdoor burning today. Immediately report any wildfires to local emergency services by calling 911. Burn restrictions remain in effect. For complete details, visit www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits, or by calling 866-922-2876.

About

Lake Gogebic State Park is situated on the western shore of Lake Gogebic, Michigan's largest inland lake at over 13,000 acres. Located in Gogebic County between US-2 and M-28, the park encompasses 360 acres of classic Upper Peninsula northwoods landscape with approximately one mile of pristine lake frontage. The campground features 101 modern sites with electrical hookups (many with pull-through options) and 26 semi-modern sites, plus a tiny house rental that sleeps four. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, a sanitation station, playground, and an on-site camp host. A natural sandy beach provides swimming access (no lifeguard on duty), and a paved boat launch serves anglers targeting the lake's renowned walleye, perch, smallmouth bass, and northern pike populations. A self-guided two-mile interpretive hiking trail loops through the campground and surrounding forest. The park's remote Upper Peninsula location offers dark skies and wildlife viewing opportunities, with the western UP's extensive trail systems and waterfalls nearby.
