About

Black River Harbor Campground is nestled in Michigan's Upper Peninsula within the Ottawa National Forest, adjacent to one of the few access points to Lake Superior in the region. The 39 paved campsites are set among large pine, hemlock, and hardwood trees, with generous spacing between sites. Seven campsites offer overlooks to Lake Superior, and a footbridge provides access to sandy beach swimming areas. The recreation area is renowned for its spectacular waterfalls along the Black River, which gets its distinctive dark color from tannins in the surrounding hemlock trees. Multiple hiking trails follow the river to scenic falls. The harbor offers a boat ramp that can accommodate almost any trailered craft, with fishing charters available at the dock. A historic pavilion built by the Civilian Conservation Corps anchors the large picnic area. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. Two vault toilet buildings serve the campground. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov with a 14-day maximum stay. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM, with generators permitted only 7 AM to 9 PM.
