About
Black Hawk State Park is situated on the southernmost glacial lake in the United States, a 957-acre natural lake in Lake View, Iowa. The park features historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures from the 1930s and offers two campground options: Thirty Acres Campground on the south side and Camp Crescent near the city. Both campgrounds provide electric and non-electric sites, modern restrooms, showers, sand volleyball courts, and playground structures. The park offers extensive water recreation with no motor size restrictions on the lake, four boat ramps, swimming beaches at Thirty Acres campground and Crescent Beach, and excellent fishing for channel catfish, bluegill, and sunfish. A universally accessible fishing pier, fish house, and fish cleaning station serve anglers. After-hours fishing is permitted between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. from designated bank areas. Land-based recreation includes the Stubb Severson Nature Trail with 20 marked interpretive sites, the 33-mile hard-surfaced Sauk Trail for hiking and biking, a disc golf course starting near the Thirty Acres shelter, and mini-golf at Camp Crescent. The park also features four open shelters for gatherings, with ADA accessible options available. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, waterfowl, and songbirds throughout the park.
