Open — Currently operating through December 31, 2025 on a first-come, first-served basis at reduced winter rates. Water has been turned off for the season and restrooms are winterized. The campground closes January 1, 2026 and reopens April 1, 2026. Starting in April 2026, all sites become 100% reservable with same-day reservations accepted.

Emerson Bay State Recreation Area is situated on the southwest side of West Lake Okoboji in the Iowa Great Lakes region, offering one of the state's most popular and modernized campgrounds. The facility underwent major improvements in 2012 to provide enhanced amenities for campers. The campground features 83 well-shaded sites on paved roads, including 58 electric sites and 24 full hookup sites, all equipped with 50-amp service. Modern restrooms and shower facilities, a dump station, and playground equipment serve all campers. The recreation area's centerpiece is Lighthouse Point, featuring an observation tower with spectacular views of West Lake Okoboji. The sandy beach provides swimming access to the crystal-clear waters, while the boat ramp offers easy access to one of Iowa's premier fishing and boating destinations. Anglers can pursue walleye, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, yellow bass, perch, bluegills, crappies, and catfish. A reservable picnic shelter near the beach accommodates group gatherings. Emerson Bay is located near the Iowa Great Lakes Bike Trail System and only one mile from the Barney Peterson Nature Trail at Gull Point State Park. The campground operates seasonally with peak season from May through mid-October, offering reduced rates during shoulder seasons in April and late October. Winter camping is not available as the facility closes November 1 through March 31 annually.
