About

Prairie Rose State Park sits on the shores of a 218-acre artificial lake in the rolling hills of western Iowa's Shelby County. The park preserves remnants of the original tallgrass prairie that once covered the region while providing full-service camping facilities for RVers and tent campers alike. The park operates two distinct campgrounds. The East Campground is the primary facility for RV camping, featuring 8 full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and 20/30/50-amp electric service, plus 69 electric-only sites. Modern restrooms with showers and a dump station serve this area. Sites accommodate rigs up to 60 feet, with pull-through options available. The West Campground caters more to tent campers and those seeking a quieter experience, offering non-electric and electric sites with vault toilet facilities. Recreation centers on the lake, with a swimming beach, two boat ramps, and eight fishing jetties providing access for anglers pursuing bass, bluegill, and catfish. Two fish cleaning stations are available. Land-based activities include 7 miles of hiking trails, a playground, basketball court, horseshoe pits, and sand volleyball.
