About

Springbrook State Park offers 930 acres of rolling hills, mature timber, and diverse recreation opportunities in central Iowa. Acquired by the state in 1926, many of the park's stone buildings and shelters were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. The park features a 17-acre lake with a sandy swimming beach, three fishing jetties, and two fishing docks where anglers can catch crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. Electric trolling motors are permitted on the lake, and a boat ramp provides access to the Middle Raccoon River. The large campground accommodates 110 sites including electric hookups, non-electric sites, tent-only areas, and youth group camping. Modern amenities include showers, flush restrooms, a dump station, basketball courts, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits, and a playground. A camp store operates weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day offering supplies, firewood, and ice. The Sherburne House multifamily cabin provides lodging for groups of 10-14 people with full kitchen and multiple bathrooms. Approximately 12 miles of trails wind through timber and prairie areas, connecting to nearby conservation lands. The trails accommodate hikers, mountain bikers, and in winter, four miles are designated for snowmobiling. Springbrook is also located along the Central Iowa Bike Route, which connects to Big Creek State Park and Ledges State Park. Two historic stone picnic shelters are available for reservation, including the lakeside Beach Shelter with modern restrooms and the CCC Shelter featuring a fireplace.
