Dolliver Memorial State Park

Open — The campground is currently open for first-come, first-served camping through December 31, 2025. Modern restrooms, showers, and dump station are closed for the season; a pit latrine and hydrant near the cabins remain open. The campground closes January 1, 2026 and reopens April 1, 2026. Starting April 2026, all campsites become 100 percent reservable and accept same-day reservations.

Dolliver Memorial State Park spreads across 594 acres in northwest Iowa along the scenic Des Moines River Valley. The park is unique for its natural bluffs, geological formations, and rugged trail system. Highlights include the Copperas Beds, unique sandstone formations that tower 100 feet above Prairie Creek and date back more than 350 million years, and Boneyard Hollow, a box canyon where Native Americans from the Woodland Culture are believed to have driven bison and deer off the cliffs. Ancient Native American mounds from approximately 1100 A.D. overlook the river valley. The Dolliver Campground is pleasantly situated overlooking the Des Moines River with 18 electric sites, one full-hookup pull-through site, three tent-only sites, and one youth group site. The campground includes a modern restroom and shower building, dump station, and is 100 percent reservable. Two basic family cabins sleep four and are equipped with small refrigerators, cook-top stoves, microwaves and sinks. The park also features two historic CCC-built day-use lodges and an open shelter available for rental. Nearly six miles of winding trails lead through oak-covered hillsides, hilltop prairies, and to the park's geological treasures.

Directions

From Fort Dodge, go south on Nelson Ave/P59 to T Corner and turn left or east on D33 and follow to park. From Lehigh, take 290th or D43 northwest out of town, turn right onto Dolliver Park Ave/D33 and follow to the park.
