About

Brushy Creek State Recreation Area encompasses 6,500 acres of diverse Iowa landscape including native prairie, grassland, timber, and both river and lake habitats. The recreation area is particularly renowned for its extensive equestrian facilities, featuring over 45 miles of trails and two dedicated equestrian campgrounds with horse-wash areas and hitch rails. The park offers three distinct camping areas: the North, Middle (Beach), and South campgrounds. Amenities include modern restrooms with showers, electric sites, full hookup sites with water and sewer connections, picnic tables and grills at each site, and a dump station. The lake provides opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating, with an accessible fishing pier on the west side. The campgrounds operate on a 100% reservation system through Iowa State Parks. Visitors can enjoy buddy campsites and youth group camping options alongside standard sites. The park underwent major renovations in 2025-2026, including electrical upgrades to 50-amp service, new water and sewer hookups, pull-through sites, and improved roads and camp pads.
