About
Monahans Sandhills State Park preserves a striking landscape of wind-sculpted sand dunes in the West Texas desert, located about 5 miles from Monahans and 31 miles from Odessa. The campground offers 25 paved electric campsites with 50-amp service and water hookups, ranging from 25 to 60 feet in length. Pull-through sites accommodate larger RVs up to 60 feet, while back-in sites handle rigs up to 50 feet. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and waist-high grill, with some featuring shared shade shelters. Campground facilities include hot showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station. A park store at headquarters rents sand discs for dune surfing daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Three equestrian campsites with water hookups are also available for visitors bringing horses, who must present a negative Coggins test dated within the past year. The park frequently reaches capacity, particularly during the peak season from September through March, and advance reservations are strongly recommended. Ground fires are prohibited throughout the park, though fires in designated fire rings at campsites are permitted. Gates lock at 10 p.m. with no after-hours vehicle access, though self-pay stations are available for late arrivals who must register by 9 a.m. the following day.
