Monahans Sandhills State Park is a distinctive 3,840-acre natural area located in Ward and Winkler counties, featuring an ever-changing landscape of massive sand dunes sculpted by the wind. This Texas-sized sandbox offers a unique camping experience in the southern Llano Estacado region, where visitors can explore freely across unmarked terrain, discovering desert plants, wildflowers, and wildlife that thrive in this seemingly inhospitable environment. The campground provides 25 sites equipped with water and electric hookups, each featuring picnic tables, fire rings, waist-high grills, and shared shade shelters. Restrooms with hot showers are conveniently located nearby. The park is particularly popular for its recreational opportunities, including sandboarding on rented discs, horseback riding through 800 acres of equestrian area, and spectacular sunset viewing. The Dunagan Visitor Center offers interpretive exhibits about the area's natural and cultural history, with windows overlooking a wildlife viewing area. Located just off Interstate 20 at exit 86, the park sits between Monahans, Odessa, and Midland, making it an accessible destination for West Texas travelers. The facility operates year-round with gates open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Due to its popularity, reservations are strongly recommended for both camping and day use to guarantee entry.

From Midland: Take I-20 West to exit 86, then take Park Road 41 North to the park. From El Paso: Take I-20 East through Monahans for 6 miles to exit 86, then take Park Road 41 North to the park.
