Big Acres is a day-use area only with no overnight camping. Group picnic shelters are available for reservation with a 10:00 PM checkout time. Note that the Lower Lake began a drawdown in August 2024 for maintenance, which may affect swimming areas and boating access.

About

Big Acres is a popular day-use recreation area operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Sardis Lake in Panola County, Mississippi. Situated along the bottom of Sardis Dam on the 400-acre Lower Lake, the area provides a scenic lakeside setting for group gatherings and family outings. The facility features two large group picnic shelters available for reservation. Big Acres 1 includes 10 tables and a large grill, while Big Acres 2 offers 12 tables and 2 grills. Both shelters have electricity. The area also includes a large playground, basketball courts, and a volleyball net, with proximity to a swim beach. This is a day-use area only with no overnight camping permitted. Checkout time is 10:00 PM. Amplified music and bouncy houses require prior approval from the Sardis Lake Field Office.

Directions

Located on Highway 315 along the bottom of Sardis Dam. Approximately 8 miles from Interstate 55 in Sardis and 8.5 miles from Interstate 55 in Batesville.
