About
Ford Cabin provides a secluded wilderness experience on the banks of the North Fork of the Flathead River in Montana's Flathead National Forest. The rustic log cabin sits on a grassy field near Tepee Creek, surrounded by pine trees and bordered by Glacier National Park to the east. The area is home to elk, moose, and grizzly bears. The cabin is equipped with propane-powered heating, lighting, and a cookstove, along with limited cooking and eating utensils. Sleeping accommodations include two bunk beds and one double bed for up to six guests. A vault toilet is located nearby, and a hand-pump provides potable water from April through November. A fire ring is available on the grounds. Guests must bring their own bedding, food, flashlights, and garbage bags as this is a pack-it-out facility. Access is via the gravel North Fork Road from Columbia Falls, turning onto Road 308 near Tepee Creek. The road is rough in spots and only intermittently plowed in winter, requiring four-wheel drive and chains. Polebridge Mercantile, about 30 minutes south, offers limited supplies. No RVs, tents, or campers are permitted at the site.
Directions
From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue until it ends at Railroad Street. Turn right (east) on Railroad Street, which becomes North Fork Road. Continue north approximately 45 miles (about 11 miles past Polebridge). Turn right on Road 308 just north of Tepee Creek crossing, cross a small bridge, and the cabin is on the right. The North Fork Road is gravel and rough in spots; 4WD and chains are recommended in winter.
