About

Sawdust Hole River Access sits on the banks of the Manistee River in northwestern Michigan's Manistee National Forest. The site takes its name from the lumber era of the 1800s, when abandoned logs were salvaged from the river and milled on-site, leaving behind large sawdust piles on the flats north of the river. The campground offers 8 primitive sites with vault toilets but no potable water. Multiple foot trails lead down a steep bank to the river, making this a favored spot for anglers targeting salmon during the fall run. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes just below and west of the camping area, providing hiking opportunities along the river corridor. Facilities are basic and the setting is rustic. Campers should bring their own drinking water or be prepared to filter from the river. A day-use fee applies, with digital passes available through Recreation.gov or payment by cash/check on-site.
