About

Government Landing Access is a small collection of 3 designated dispersed campsites along the Upper Manistee River, part of the Forest Service's 41 designated dispersed sites in this scenic corridor between Tippy Dam and Hodenpyl Dam. The area is named for nearby Government Island and offers a true backcountry camping experience with minimal development. Each site features a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern hook. Vault toilets are within walking distance. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. The area provides boat ramp access and opportunities for fishing, motorized boating, and paddling. The main access road follows a powerline corridor that doubles as a snowmobile trail in winter. Maximum occupancy is 8 people and 2 vehicles per site, with a 16-day stay limit before relocating at least 5 miles away.
