Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 11:08AM EDT by NWS Gaylord MI

11:08 AM — 8:00 PM

The combination of dry surface conditions, low afternoon relative humidity values, and gusty east to southeast winds will result in elevated fire danger conditions across northern lower Michigan this. Sustained winds of 7 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be seen over northern Michigan this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values of 20 to 35 percent are expected over much of northern lower Michigan. These conditions could lead to rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Michigan, see www.dnr.state.mi.us//.

About

The Marzinski Horse Trail and Campground were developed specifically for horse enthusiasts who enjoy riding through forested quiet trail systems. The campground features 19 pull-through equestrian sites with ample room for horses on each site, set within a white pine stand that offers privacy between campsites. Hitching posts are available at some sites. The campground serves as the primary access point for 18 miles of horse trail that passes through mostly flat forested land with some small openings. The terrain consists of mixed hardwood and pine vegetation types, marked with blue diamond-shaped markers on trees and cedar signs. Hikers may also use these non-motorized trails. Basic amenities include drinking water from a hand pump, a vault toilet building, picnic tables and fire rings at each site. No hookups are available. The Forest Service and volunteers maintain the trail system and request that visitors practice pack-it-in, pack-it-out principles. Horse riders are asked not to access the Little Manistee River to prevent erosion.
