About

Bear Lake State Park is located in southeastern Idaho along the eastern shore of Bear Lake, a stunning 20-mile-long lake known for its intense turquoise water often called the Caribbean of the Rockies. The park welcomes approximately 15,000 campers annually and offers diverse camping options for water enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. Mountain Fawn Campground serves as the main camping area with 47 serviced sites (electric and water hookups), 2 ADA-accessible campsites, and group camps accommodating up to 50 people. All sites feature picnic tables and fire rings, with beach access, flush restrooms, showers, and a dump station available. Sage Springs Primitive Campsites offers a more rustic experience among junipers and sagebrush with a large group site and multiple tent sites, vault toilets, and beautiful lake views. The park provides excellent water recreation opportunities including swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, and paddlesports during warmer months. A gradual slope to the lake bottom creates an enormous swimming area. Winter visitors can ice fish for the Bonneville cisco, a fish found nowhere else on earth. North Beach and Mountain Fawn day-use areas offer over a mile of sandy beach, boat ramps, picnic areas, and life jacket loaner stations. Reservations are required for camping and are available up to 9 months in advance.

Directions

From US Highway 89 at St. Charles, Idaho, access the park via North Beach Road or Eastshore Road. The park is 118 miles south of Pocatello, Idaho and 133 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah.
