Cloverleaf Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates from late May through early September with reservable sites, water, and vault toilets. During the off-season, it remains accessible as a first-come, first-served area with no fee, but no water or restrooms are available.

About

Cloverleaf Campground is situated on St. Charles Creek in a scenic canyon within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest of southeast Idaho, approximately 8 miles west of St. Charles via paved road. At an elevation of 6,200 feet, the campground features 18 single-family sites and one group site that can accommodate up to 100 people, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. The campground is nestled among pines and aspens that provide partial shade, with summer wildflowers dotting the landscape and St. Charles Creek flowing gently past. The area offers excellent fishing for cutthroat trout, and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game manages the river fisheries. In-season big game hunting is also popular. Nearby, the North Fork Trail and associated trails access the Highline Trail, a 55-mile National Trail System route that stretches along the backbone of the Wasatch Mountains. The trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcyclists, attracting trail users from around the world. Minnetonka Cave, one of only two developed caves in the Forest Service, offers guided tours from early June through Labor Day. Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Bear Lake itself are also nearby, providing additional recreational opportunities.

Directions

Turn west off U.S. Highway 89 in St. Charles, Idaho. Follow the paved St. Charles Canyon Road (Forest Road 412) for approximately 8 miles up the canyon to the campground on the left side of the road.
