Davis Canyon Campground

Closed — Closed for the winter season. Opens late May through early September as a first-come, first-served campground. During the off-season, the campground remains open with no fee, but toilets and water are not available.

About

Davis Canyon Campground is situated on St. Charles Creek in a scenic canyon within the forests of southeast Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, the campground features a mixed-growth conifer and aspen forest setting with St. Charles Creek flowing gently through the area. The campground contains one accessible group site that can accommodate up to 40 people, consisting of three smaller individual sites. Each site includes picnic tables and fire rings, with gravel roads and parking spurs. Vault toilets are provided, though campers should note that no potable water is available on-site. Recreation opportunities abound in the area. The nearby North Fork Trail and its associated trails provide access to the Highline Trail #316, part of the National Trail System and the area's premier trail. This 55-mile route stretches along the backbone of the Wasatch Mountains and attracts trail users from around the world, open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcyclists. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game manages the river fisheries, providing excellent fishing most of the year in St. Charles Creek. In-season big game hunting is also popular. Nearby attractions include Minnetonka Cave, one of only two developed caves in the Forest Service, located a few miles from the campground with guided tours scheduled every 30 minutes daily from early June until Labor Day.

Directions

From St. Charles, Idaho, drive west on Forest Road 412 for approximately 6 miles to reach the campground. St. Charles is accessible via U.S. Highway 89, either north from Garden City, Utah, or south from Montpelier, Idaho.
