About

Porcupine Campground is nestled along the banks of St. Charles Creek in St. Charles Canyon, about seven miles west of St. Charles, Idaho. Situated at an elevation of 6,300 feet within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, this campground offers a serene setting surrounded by pines and aspens that provide partial shade and vibrant fall colors. The gentle creek flows past the campground, and summer wildflowers dot the landscape throughout the canyon. The campground provides six single-family sites and one group site accommodating up to 20 people, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Paved roads make the campground accessible, and it serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. Nearby trails offer access to the Highline National Recreation Trail, a 55-mile premier trail stretching along the backbone of the Wasatch Mountains that welcomes hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcyclists. St. Charles Creek provides excellent stream fishing opportunities managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The campground's proximity to Bear Lake's turquoise waters, Minnetonka Cave (just 2 miles away), and Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge makes it ideal for those seeking diverse recreational activities in southeast Idaho's stunning landscape.

Directions

At the north end of St. Charles, Idaho on US Highway 89, turn west on St. Charles Canyon Road (Forest Road 412). Follow this road for approximately 7 miles to Porcupine Campground on the left side of the road.
