About

Porcupine Campground is nestled in a scenic canyon within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, situated along the banks of St. Charles Creek. The campground provides a mix of partial shade from pines and aspens, with summer wildflowers dotting the landscape. At 6,300 feet elevation, temperatures remain comfortable during the summer season. The campground offers six single-family sites and one group site that accommodates up to 20 people. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water available during the operating season. Paved roads lead to and within the campground, and sites can accommodate trailers and RVs up to 32 feet. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. The North Fork Trail provides access to the Highline Trail, a 55-mile National Recreation Trail along the Wasatch Mountains open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcyclists. St. Charles Creek offers excellent fishing, and Minnetonka Cave, one of only two developed caves in the Forest Service, is just 2 miles away with guided tours available from early June through Labor Day.

Directions

From U.S. Highway 89 at the north end of St. Charles, Idaho, turn west onto St. Charles Canyon Road (Forest Road 412). Follow for approximately 7 miles to the campground on the left side of the road.
