St. Charles Campground

St. Charles Campground is nestled along its namesake creek in St. Charles Canyon within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, resting at 6,300 feet elevation approximately 8 miles from Bear Lake State Park and North Beach. The campground offers 6 single-family sites and one group site that accommodates up to 20 people. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and drinking water available throughout the campground. The varied vegetation of aspens, lodgepole pines, willows, dogwoods, Engelmann spruce, and wild roses provides partial shade and ample privacy between sites. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game manages the river fisheries, providing good to excellent fishing in St. Charles Creek most of the year. Nearby, the North Fork Trail connects to the Highline Trail #316, a 55-mile route along the backbone of the Wasatch Mountains open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcyclists. Minnetonka Cave, one of only two developed caves in the Forest Service system, offers guided tours every 30 minutes daily from early June through Labor Day.

Directions

From U.S. Highway 89 in St. Charles, Idaho (approximately 17 miles south of Montpelier), turn west onto Forest Road #412 at the north edge of town. Travel approximately 3 miles on the paved road to the forest boundary. The campground entrance is just around the bend. Note: Forest Road #412 is not plowed for snow removal until late May or early June.
