About

Beachside State Recreation Site is a small but exquisite destination campground on Oregon's central coast, located approximately 3.5 miles south of Waldport near milepost 159 on Highway 101. The park's defining feature is its exceptional beachfront location, with every campsite positioned mere seconds from miles of broad, sandy beach that stretches along Wakonda Beach. This proximity to the ocean makes it an ideal spot for experiencing the full drama of the Oregon coast, from spectacular sunsets to powerful winter storms. The campground offers 32 standard sites with electric and water hookups (2 ADA accessible), 42 tent sites with nearby water access, and 2 accessible yurts (one pet-friendly). While half of the campsites are adjacent to Highway 101, the sound of crashing waves often drowns out traffic noise. Standard sites can accommodate RVs and trailers, though the fee remains consistent due to the water and electric amenities. The park does not have a sewer dump station on-site, but free dump stations are available at South Beach State Park 17 miles north or Washburne State Park 17 miles south. The park's beach access makes it exceptionally popular for kite flying, whale watching, beachcombing, agate hunting, surfing, and nature viewing. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic tables, fire pits, and a horseshoe pit. Originally named Big Creek State Park, the name was changed in 1957 by the Highway Commission to end confusion with other similarly named areas. The campground can experience flooding from ocean tides and heavy rainfall during spring and fall.
