This is a day-use picnic shelter available for reservation, not an overnight campground. The shelter is currently accepting reservations through Recreation.gov. Overnight camping is available at the adjacent Tailwater Campground, which requires a separate reservation.

The Barren River Lake Tailwater Picnic Shelter is a day-use group shelter managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Barren River Lake in Allen County, Kentucky. Situated adjacent to the Outlet Works below Barren River Lake Dam, this reservable shelter provides a scenic location for group gatherings, family reunions, and picnics. The facility is near the Tailwater Campground and Port Oliver Recreation Area, offering easy access to fishing opportunities in the tailwaters below the dam. The area is popular for catching catfish and hybrid striped bass, while downstream waters hold various bass species and sunfish. The Steen Bergen Nature Trail provides hiking opportunities with chances to spot great horned owls, woodpeckers, migrating songbirds, and other wildlife. Firewood from outside the area is not permitted due to restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of invasive insects and disease. Off-highway vehicles are prohibited. This is a day-use facility only; overnight camping is available at the adjacent Tailwater Campground, which is a separate reservation.
