About

Mammoth Cave Campground serves as the primary developed camping area at Mammoth Cave National Park and puts visitors in a prime location to explore both the underground wonders and surface features of the park. Located within a quarter mile of the visitor center where all cave tours begin, the campground offers convenient access to the world's longest recorded cave system with over 400 miles of mapped passages. The campground contains 111 primitive campsites with a mix of tent-only sites, sites that accommodate tents or RVs up to 38 feet, group sites that hold up to 16 people, and two fully accessible sites. Most sites are primitive without hookups, though two VIP sites offer full water, sewer, and electric hookups on a first-come, first-served basis. Each standard site accommodates up to 8 people, one RV, and two tents. Rangers staff the campground kiosk during operating season to provide information and assistance. Seasonal amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, a camp store, laundry facilities, firewood and ice sales, trash collection, a dump station, and an amphitheater. The campground doubles as a trailhead for 14 miles of hiking and biking trails, and the scenic Green River is within walking distance. Wildlife is abundant, with deer and turkeys commonly seen grazing near campsites in early morning and at dusk. The surrounding Kentucky countryside features hilly terrain and scenic river valleys that provide beautiful surface exploration opportunities to complement the underground cave tours.
