Bahia Honda State Park Campground
Open year-round with all three campgrounds operational. Park hours are 8am to sundown daily. Due to extreme popularity, the park may temporarily close when day-use areas reach capacity, particularly December through March. Reservations through reserve.floridastateparks.org open 11 months in advance.
Coastal Flood Statement issued August 12 at 12:56PM EDT until August 13 at 5:00PM EDT by NWS Key West FL
* WHAT...Minor saltwater flooding. * WHERE...Lower Florida Keys. * WHEN...Through Thursday afternoon, especially at the times of high tide. * IMPACTS...Minor saltwater flooding of low elevation streets and lots is likely. Some storm drains will overflow, and some seawalls and docks will be overtopped. Boaters can expect less clearance under fixed bridges. Motorists should remember that persistent puddles around the times of high tide are almost certain to contain a mix of saltwater.
About
Bahia Honda State Park Campground sits on a 524-acre barrier island between Big Pine Key and the Seven Mile Bridge, offering some of the most sought-after camping in Florida. The park features three distinct camping areas totaling 80 sites. Buttonwood Campground (sites 1-48) is the largest and most versatile, accommodating RVs up to 50 feet with 30-amp electric and water hookups on gravel pads. Waterfront sites 12-25 offer direct channel and marina views. A modern bathhouse provides flush toilets and hot showers, with a dump station nearby. Sandspur Campground (sites 49-72) reopened in 2022 after Hurricane Irma damage and now offers 24 oceanfront sites for tents and camping rigs up to 23 feet. Each site includes electric and water hookups, a picnic table, and grill. Bayside Campground (sites 73-80) provides eight primitive sites with water hookups only, picnic tables, and grills. Accessing Bayside requires passing under the historic Bahia Honda Bridge with a strict 6'8" clearance. The park is renowned for Sandspur Beach and Calusa Beach, consistently ranked among Florida's best. A camp store and concession offer snacks, souvenirs, and rental gear including kayaks and snorkeling equipment. ADA-accessible sites are available at Buttonwood (sites 30, 31, 45, 46). Pets are welcome on leash throughout the campground.
