Patchy dense fog is occurring early this morning over inland portions of South FL, especially along portions of Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail. Visibility may fall to under a half mile at times. Motorists should exercise caution if traveling early this morning. Allow extra time to reach your destination and use low- beam headlights only.

Kirby Storter - Partial Reopen

As of 11/4/2024, the Kirby Storter Boardwalk will reopen to the public. Note that the boardwalk is only open part of the way, as rebuilding has not yet begun.

Off Road Vehicle Inspections

ORV renewals & new permits will be issued at the Nathanial P. Reed Visitor Center Friday-Monday, 9am-1:30pm. No permits will be issued Tuesday-Thursday. Permits will be issued first-come first-served. Visit our ORV page for more information

Park Passes

Park passes, including: America the Beautiful, Veteran, Lifetime, etc., are UNAVAILABLE for purchase/pickup within Big Cypress. Shark Valley Visitor Center (Everglades) is the closest location to Big Cypress for purchase.

Monument Lake Campground sits in the heart of Big Cypress National Preserve, offering visitors a peaceful retreat surrounded by the unique ecosystem of this vast swamp. The campground features 26 RV sites arranged around Monument Lake, providing lake views from every site, and 10 tent sites tucked away closer to the campground host and restroom facilities. The RV sites offer open camping with limited to no shade, while tent sites provide a more secluded experience. The campground provides essential amenities including flush restrooms, drinking water available at a spigot near the restrooms, picnic tables at each site, and fire rings at tent sites. No hookups for electricity, sewer, or water are available, maintaining a more rustic camping experience. The facility meets minimum ADA requirements for accessibility and has a campground host on-site during the season. Monument Lake Campground serves as an ideal base for exploring Big Cypress National Preserve's diverse recreational opportunities. Visitors can enjoy hiking and biking trails, fishing in nearby waters, wildlife photography, hunting during designated seasons, and exploring the preserve's extensive off-road vehicle trail system. The campground is conveniently located near the Oasis Visitor Center, boardwalk trails, Miccosukee Cultural Center, and Shark Valley. With limited to no cell phone coverage, advance reservations through Recreation.gov are highly recommended.
