John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Campground sits at the gateway to the Florida Keys in Key Largo, making it an ideal base for exploring the only living coral reef in the continental United States. The 47-site campground accommodates both tent and RV campers with water and 30/50/110-volt electric hookups at each site. A central restroom building provides flush toilets and hot showers that meet ADA requirements, and three paved campsites offer accessible paths to the facilities. The park's main draw is its underwater world. Visitors can view vibrant coral formations and marine life aboard glass-bottom boat tours, or get closer through snorkeling and scuba diving excursions offered by the park concessionaire. The iconic Christ of the Abyss statue rests 25 feet underwater at Key Largo Dry Rocks reef. Back on land, kayak and canoe trails wind through mangrove habitat, short nature trails traverse tropical hardwood hammocks, and a swimming beach provides easy water access. The Blue Heron Cafe inside the park serves food and drinks, while dive shops offer equipment rentals, sundries, and souvenirs. A community campfire circle at the Point provides a gathering spot for campers. Reservations fill quickly, especially during the dry season from December through April when conditions are optimal for reef activities.

From Miami, take Florida's Turnpike south to US 1. Continue on US 1 to Key Largo. The park entrance is on the left (ocean side) at Mile Marker 102.5.
