Orb Trail Campground at Long Key State Park provides a unique primitive camping experience in the heart of the Florida Keys. This tent-only campground features hike-in oceanfront sites positioned along the Atlantic Ocean, each equipped with a picnic table, grill, and hammock stand. The campground has no electric or water hookups, offering a true primitive camping experience with modern conveniences including restroom facilities and cold outdoor showers. The park was historically home to Henry Flagler's Long Key Fishing Camp, a luxury destination along his railroad to Key West that attracted celebrities and world-renowned anglers in the early 20th century. Today, the park serves as a tranquil haven for outdoor recreation. Campers have access to two land-based nature trails including the 1.1-mile Golden Orb Trail, which winds through various plant communities including hammock, mangrove forest, coastal berm, salt pan, and rockland habitats. The park is a designated stop on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Shallow waters along the natural shoreline provide excellent paddling and exploration opportunities. The park offers some of the best sport fishing in the Florida Keys for species including bonefish and redfish. Swimming and snorkeling are available in designated areas, though the water is generally shallow with seagrass bottoms. The location offers minimal light pollution for stargazing. Well-behaved pets are welcome in the campground but are not allowed on beaches or along the natural shoreline.
