About

Au Train Lake Campground is located at the south end of Au Train Lake, the largest inland lake in the Hiawatha National Forest area at 830 acres. The campground features 37 large, wooded campsites nestled among rolling hills forested with pine and aspen trees. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill, making it well-suited for family camping trips and outdoor enthusiasts. The lake's substantial size provides ample opportunities for water skiing, boating, swimming, and fishing. Anglers can expect healthy catches of bass and a variety of perch. A boat ramp at the campground parking area offers plenty of space for turning and parking boat trailers. The slow-moving Au Train River, which flows from the lake north to Lake Superior, is popular for canoeing. The campground provides access to the two-mile Songbird interpretive trail, which winds through diverse habitats including forest, field, bog, and lakeshore, making it excellent for birding and wildlife viewing. A wildlife viewing platform is available at nearby Buck Bay and Buck Bay Creek. The city of Au Train on Lake Superior's shore is approximately 5 miles from the campground.

Directions

From Au Train, travel south on Forest Service Road H03 for about 4 miles, then go a mile east on Forest Road 2276, and another mile north on Forest Service Road 2596 to the campground.
