About

Hovey Lake Campsites offers a secluded camping experience on the east side of 99-acre Hovey Lake in the Hiawatha National Forest. This quiet, family-friendly campground features 4 primitive campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The area is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat focused on canoeing, birdwatching, and enjoying nature's surroundings. The lake serves as the headwaters of the Indian Wild and Scenic River and provides excellent trout fishing opportunities, along with northern pike, black bass, and panfish. A carry-in boat access near the campground entrance allows for easy non-motorized boating. While swimming is not recommended due to shallow water and a mucky bottom, the lake's natural setting makes it perfect for paddling and wildlife observation. This is a no-fee campground operated on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. The campground is accessible via forest roads and offers a true backcountry camping experience in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
