About

Aspen Campground is a small, primitive campground with 7 sites located in Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest near Gould, Colorado, approximately 22 miles southeast of Walden. Set in a large grove of aspen trees at 8,900 feet elevation, the campground sits adjacent to the South Fork of the Michigan River. The area is known for its good moose habitat and fishing opportunities in the river. Each campsite includes a fire grate and picnic table, with varying amounts of shade throughout the loop. The soil is rich with columbine flowers, adding seasonal color to the landscape. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is best suited for tent camping or small trailers up to 20 feet in length. While recreation options are somewhat limited in the immediate vicinity, visitors can enjoy hiking and fishing in the surrounding area, and the nearby Moose Visitor Center at Colorado State Forest provides interpretive information about North Park moose and early timber camps.
