About

Aspen Basin Campground sits at approximately 10,300 feet elevation adjacent to the large parking area at Santa Fe Ski Basin, marking the end of NM 475 (the Santa Fe Scenic Byway). This is a less-developed Forest Service campground with 10 units, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A single vault toilet is located at the far west end of the parking lot. The campground primarily serves as an overnight staging point for backpackers embarking into the Pecos Wilderness via the Winsor Trail and other nearby trailheads. There is no potable water, no campground host, and no dump station. RVs and trailers can camp here given the ample parking area space, though no hookups are available. Due to the scenic quality of the aspen groves and easy access from downtown Santa Fe (15 miles), the area sees heavy visitation during summer and especially during fall foliage season. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no fee.

Directions

From downtown Santa Fe, take Bishop's Lodge Road to Artist Road, which becomes NM 475 (Hyde Park Road/Santa Fe Scenic Byway). Continue 15 miles to the end of the road at Santa Fe Ski Basin. The campground is adjacent to the ski area parking lot.
