About
Holy Ghost Group Area sits at the upper end of Holy Ghost Canyon in the Santa Fe National Forest, surrounded by mixed conifer forest at the edge of the Pecos Wilderness. The single group site can host up to 40 people and includes a covered ramada, picnic tables, a large communal grill, and a spacious fire pit. A vault toilet and bear-proof trash containers are provided. There is no potable water, so groups must bring their own supply. The campground provides direct access to excellent hiking and fishing opportunities. Holy Ghost Trail #283 follows the creek for 4.2 miles and connects to Winsor Trail #254, which links into the 350-mile Pecos Wilderness trail network accessing alpine lakes including Katherine, Stewart, Johnson, and Spirit Lake. Holy Ghost Creek supports rainbow and brown trout and is regularly stocked by New Mexico Game and Fish. The access road is narrow with single-lane sections and designated pull-outs. Large trailers and RVs cannot be accommodated. Horse trailers, horses, and ATVs are prohibited. Quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 7am. Campers should remove mud, seeds, and vegetation from vehicles before entering to prevent spread of invasive species.
Directions
From Santa Fe, take I-25 east approximately 18 miles to the Glorieta/Pecos Exit. Take NM Highway 50 to Pecos (about 5 miles). At the 4-way stop, turn left onto NM Highway 63 and travel approximately 14 miles north to Forest Road 122. Take FR 122 approximately 4 miles to the campground. The group site is located behind the locked gate at the end of the campground.
