About

Big Tesuque Campground sits at approximately 9,700 feet elevation in the Santa Fe National Forest, 12 miles from downtown Santa Fe via NM 475 (Hyde Park Road), also designated as the Santa Fe Scenic Byway. This small walk-in campground provides a rustic camping experience with 10 primitive sites nestled among large stands of aspen and mixed conifer forest. The campground is designed for tent camping only and is not conducive to trailers or RVs. Each site has a picnic table and grill, with a vault toilet located in the parking area. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. There is no campground host on site. The area offers excellent recreation opportunities year-round, including day hiking and mountain biking trails both above and below the campground. In winter, nearby facilities provide access to nordic and alpine skiing. The campground sees heavy use, particularly during fall when the aspen viewing season draws large crowds to the scenic byway.

Directions

From downtown Santa Fe, take Bishop's Lodge Road to Artist Road, which becomes NM 475 (Hyde Park Road). Continue 12 miles to the campground.
