About
Hyde Memorial State Park is New Mexico's first state park, established in 1938 and located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains approximately 8 miles northeast of the Santa Fe Plaza. The park occupies a forested canyon along Little Tesuque Creek at elevations ranging from 8,300 to 9,400 feet, providing a cool mountain escape from Santa Fe's high desert climate. The campground features 50 developed sites spread through the ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forest, with 7 sites offering 30-amp electric hookups. Each site includes a parking space, picnic table, and grill. Vault toilets are available throughout, though potable water is only accessible in limited quantities at the Ranger Station during staffed hours (8 AM to 4 PM). The RV dump station is currently closed. The park offers excellent hiking trails with spectacular views, a visitor center with Boy Scout exhibits, and the historic Hyde Park Lodge available for events. Winter brings opportunities for snowshoeing, sledding, and cross-country skiing. Note that the park has no WiFi or cellular service, making it a true escape from connectivity.
Directions
From Santa Fe Plaza, take Washington Avenue north to Artist Road (NM 475/Hyde Park Road). Continue northeast on Hyde Park Road for approximately 8 miles. The park entrance is at 740 Hyde Park Road.
