About

Holy Ghost Campground occupies a scenic location in Holy Ghost Canyon within the Santa Fe National Forest, situated along the banks of Holy Ghost Creek. This 23-site campground serves as a gateway to the Pecos Wilderness, with Holy Ghost Trail #283 starting right from the campground and running 4.2 miles along the creek to connect with Winsor Trail #254. The steep canyon setting features mixed conifer forests and provides excellent opportunities for stream fishing, hiking, and nature photography. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Each site includes a picnic table and fire grill. Vault toilets and bear-proof trash bins are provided, but there is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. The road to the campground, while paved, is narrow and winding through the canyon, making it unsuitable for large RVs or trailers. Special regulations protect the sensitive canyon ecosystem. Campers are required to clean mud, seeds, and vegetation from all gear before entering to prevent the spread of invasive species. The endangered plant habitat along the road requires visitors to stay on pavement and avoid picking wildflowers. Horse and pack animals are not permitted at this site, though horse trailers can be parked at nearby Terrero. ATVs are prohibited, and quiet hours run from 10 PM to 7 AM.

Directions

16 miles north of Pecos on Highway 63 and Forest Road 122. Road is paved but narrow and winding, not suitable for large trailers or RVs.
