Black Canyon Campground is one of the most popular and well-equipped campgrounds in Santa Fe National Forest's Espanola Ranger District. Located at 8,475 feet elevation, approximately 8 miles northeast of downtown Santa Fe on NM 475 (Hyde Park Road), it offers excellent mountain scenery in the southern Rockies. The campground has 36 units for cars and RVs, including several double-family sites that accommodate up to 16 people, plus 6 walk-in tent-only sites. Every site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets are provided throughout. There is no electricity, no hookups, and no dump station on site, though a dump station is available for a nominal fee at adjacent Hyde Memorial State Park. Cellular coverage is limited inside the campground. A pleasant 1.5-mile loop trail winds through the campground and surrounding forest. Additional hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails are nearby. The Pecos Wilderness is accessible 8 miles from the campground with trails leading to peaks, valleys, and forested groves. Winter visitors can access Nordic and alpine skiing along NM 475.

Eight miles from downtown Santa Fe on NM 475. Take Bishop's Lodge Road to Artist Road, which becomes NM 475 (Hyde Park Road).
