About

Arrow Rock Campground is situated on Melvern Lake on the eastern edge of the Flint Hills, America's last expanse of intact tallgrass prairie. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this lakeside facility offers 33 campsites ranging from basic non-electric tent sites to RV-friendly spots with 30-amp electric and water hookups. Melvern Lake impounds nearly 7,000 acres of water on the upper Marais des Cygnes River Valley. Anglers target walleye, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, along with black, striped, white, and smallmouth bass. The boat ramp, courtesy dock, and fish cleaning station support water-based recreation. The surrounding 18,000 acres provide hiking and hunting opportunities. The 4-mile Tallgrass Heritage Trail originates within the campground, winding through terrain dominated by big bluestem, switchgrass, and Indian grass. Hunters may find deer, quail, turkey, ducks, rabbits, and squirrels throughout the area.
