Pomona State Park sits on the south shore of the 4,000-acre Pomona Lake, approximately 24 miles south of Topeka. The 490-acre park is well-known among Kansas campers for its heavily shaded campsites and welcoming family atmosphere. Camping options include primitive tent sites, utility sites with water and 50-amp electric, and full-hookup sites with sewer connections. Four modern cabins are also available year-round. The park offers excellent water access with four boat ramps leading to Pomona Lake's calm waters. A swim beach with bath house provides summer recreation, while the Pomona Lake Marina serves anglers and boaters. Land-based activities include a nine-hole disc golf course, horseback riding, and over 2.5 miles of hiking trails including the ADA-accessible Hedge-Wood Trail. The Southwind Shelter House accommodates group gatherings year-round. Historically, the area sits near the route of the Santa Fe Trail, adding historical significance to the natural beauty. Multiple campground loops offer varying site sizes and amenities, with some areas accommodating large RVs up to 140 feet while others suit smaller rigs and tent campers.
