About

Riverside East Campground occupies a scenic 168-acre parcel on the east bank of the Neosho River, just below John Redmond Dam in the rolling hills of eastern Kansas. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides 41 well-appointed campsites with 20/30-amp electric service and water hookups. Back-in sites feature gravel pads, fire rings, grills, picnic tables, and lantern poles. Two group shelters with electric service are available for family reunions and larger gatherings. John Redmond Reservoir spans roughly 30,000 acres and offers excellent fishing for white crappie, white bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, and various sunfish species. The Otter Creek ATV area at the west end of the dam provides 140 acres of trails for dirt bikes and ATVs. Multiple hiking trails wind through the surrounding hills and along the shoreline. The landscape showcases the broad Neosho River Valley with rolling hilltops covered in bluestem, Indian grass, and switchgrass. Lower areas feature elm, black walnut, hickory, ash, hackberry, cottonwood, and cedar. Burlington, Kansas, located about 3.5 miles south, provides gas, groceries, and hospital services.
