About

Lake Charles State Park Campground is situated in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, just 30 minutes from Jonesboro and 1.5 hours from Memphis. The park centers around a 645-acre lake constructed in the 1960s by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, now famous as the site where the largest number of 20-inch bass have been caught in Northeast Arkansas. The campground offers 60 campsites: 23 modern Class AAA sites with full hookups including water, 50-amp electric, and sewer, plus 37 semi-modern Class B sites with water and 30-amp electric. Many sites are situated right on the waterfront. A yurt is also available for rent, equipped with heat, air conditioning, three bunk beds sleeping six, and outdoor amenities. The park features a visitor center selling bait, tackle, camping supplies, and snacks from March through October. Recreation opportunities include fishing on the well-stocked lake, swimming at the sandy beach, kayaking, and hiking on four trails including the Butterflies and Blooms Trail, Cedar Trail, Mockernut Trail, and White Oak Trail. The park includes bathhouses with showers, a dump station, boat launch, fishing docks, picnic areas, pavilions, and a playground. Lake Charles State Park provides a tranquil getaway year-round, with particularly scenic fall and winter visits.
