About

Alto Pit OHV Campground sits at 6,200 feet elevation at the foot of Granite Mountain Wilderness Area in Prescott National Forest. Once an active gravel pit, the area is now exclusively used for motorized off-road travel and features approximately 20 miles of trails for ATV and dirt bike riders with off-road vehicles 50 inches or less in width. The trail system offers challenging rides for advanced recreationists and thrilling rides for beginners across 400 acres of terrain. The campground offers 10 single campsites and 1 double site (accommodating up to 20 people), all equipped with picnic tables and fire pits. Staging areas with ramps make it easy to unload and prepare vehicles. The rugged landscape features granite rock in various stages of degradation, with craggy Granite Mountain rising abruptly to the north. Predominate vegetation includes ponderosa pine, limber pine, oak, manzanita, and a variety of shrubs and grasses. The facility operates year-round with reservable sites available May 1 through October 31, and first-come, first-served camping November 1 through April 30. A campground host is available to provide information and assist visitors. Day use is also available for $5 per vehicle, or free on Wednesdays. Nearby Granite Basin Recreation Area offers additional recreational opportunities including fishing, hiking, and backpacking.
