About
Alder Dune Campground occupies a prime location in the Siuslaw National Forest between two freshwater lakes on Oregon's Central Coast. The campground is divided into two loops: the Alder Loop runs along Alder Lake to the north, while sites in the Dune Loop sit closer to Dune Lake and the day-use area. Dense walls of native shrubbery between sites provide excellent privacy despite the campground's 39 sites. Both Alder and Dune Lakes are stocked with rainbow trout multiple times per year, making this a solid base for fishing. The Alder Dune Trail System departs from the day-use area and offers an easy-to-moderate route around Alder Lake, continuing over coastal dunes to connect with Sutton Trail and eventually reaching Heceta Beach on the Pacific Ocean. All sites are paved back-in spurs with full shade, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Drinking water is available from hand pumps, and vault toilets are located in each loop. There are no hookups, showers, or dump station. Site lengths range from 32 to 54 feet depending on the specific site.
Directions
From Florence, Oregon, drive 6 miles north on Highway 101. The campground entrance is on the west side of the highway.
