Alamo Lake State Park is a remote desert oasis in western Arizona, offering some of the best bass fishing in the state along with unparalleled stargazing opportunities. Located 37 miles north of Wenden in the Bill Williams River Valley, the park surrounds crystal-clear Alamo Lake with mountainous terrain dotted with Sonoran Desert vegetation including saguaro cacti and seasonal wildflowers. The park features six campground areas totaling over 114 sites with varied amenities. Campground A offers 17 basic sites with both back-in and pull-through options. Campground B has 42 mixed-amenity sites. Campground C provides 40 water and electric sites, while Campground F has 15 full-hookup sites. Campgrounds D and E offer dry camping with picnic tables and fire rings. Vault and chemical toilets are located throughout the campgrounds. The park also offers eight log cabins for those preferring a roof overhead. Anglers target trophy largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and sunfish from two paved boat ramps or from shore. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with opportunities to spot bald and golden eagles, waterfowl, mule deer, coyotes, foxes, and the park's famous wild burros. As Arizona's darkest sky state park, Alamo Lake offers spectacular views of the Milky Way. OHV enthusiasts can access nearby trails from certain campgrounds. A park store provides basic supplies, though the nearest fuel and propane are in Salome.
