About
Burro Creek Campground is situated at 1,960 feet elevation along the scenic 57-mile Burro Creek in a unique transition zone where the upper Sonoran Desert meets the lower Mojave Desert. The campground offers dramatic scenery with saguaro-studded cliffs along steep canyon walls contrasting with the creek's dense riparian vegetation and deep pools. The campground features 23 individual sites, 1 group site, and 2 day-use sites, all equipped with shaded picnic tables and fire rings with grates. Sites are split between reservable locations (sites 7, 9, and 10-17) and first-come-first-served availability (sites 1-6, 8, and 18-23). Sites 1, 2, and 10-17 are recommended for larger Class A RVs and fifth wheels due to better maneuverability. The facility includes flush toilets at two locations and a dump station, though no hookups are available at individual sites. The creek provides excellent opportunities for rockhounding, wading, and wildlife viewing. Sites 7, 8, and 9 offer prime birdwatching for species including cactus wren, Gambel's quail, Gila woodpecker, great horned owl, great blue heron, Vermilion flycatcher, and cliff swallow. Desert bighorn sheep occasionally appear on the cliffs above the creek. The campground features a Watchable Wildlife Exhibit and Interpretive Desert Garden, with hiking trails providing access to the creek. Spring wildflower displays from March through May can be exceptional depending on winter and spring precipitation.
