About

Pine Rest Campground is one of several campgrounds along the scenic Metolius River corridor in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest. This intimate, tent-only facility features 7 sites arranged in a circular loop, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The campground sits at the base of Black Butte near the Metolius Springs headwaters, where the clear, cold river emerges and flows through diverse coniferous forest. The Metolius River is renowned for fly-fishing, supporting rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon in its pristine waters. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Metolius Research Natural Area for bird watching, and the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. The Metolius-Windigo Trail offers over 100 miles of terrain for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. This is a primitive facility with no potable water, so campers must bring an adequate supply. Vault toilets are provided. Generator use is prohibited between 10 PM and 7 AM. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights, with a 28-day total limit per calendar year.
